Polyethylene/melamine cyanurate/montmorillonite and polyethylene/melamine cyanurate
/montmorillonite/antioxidant composites were prepared via direct melt mixing using a twin-screw
extruder and following were injection molded into standard specimen. In order to characterize the
properties of these materials and neat polyethylene, melt flow index, density, structure by scanning
electron microscopy (SEM) and flammability were examined.
The experimental results showed that the burning time increased (in vertical burning test) from
about 100 sec. for polyethylene to 160–166 sec. for composites and the rate of dripping (in horizontal
burning test) decreases in polyethylene composites.
